Don't Fear the Weights

Alright ladies, today we're dedicating this one to you (guys you can benefit from it too)! Time and time again I hear women express the fear of getting "too big and bulky" if they even look at a dumbbell or barbell. I hate to break it to you, but if it were that easy to put on muscle and get big and bulky, then we'd have so many bros filling the street it would look like a buck-wild scene from Animal House. So, today we're going to clear the air as to why turning into the Terminator after some strength training won't happen. We'll also briefly talk about some of the benefits to strength training because at the end of the day #StrongIsBeautiful.

First things first, the amount of testosterone (and other hormones) needed to put on the type of muscle that most women fear isn't going to happen naturally. Read that again. Ladies, your bodies weren't built (from a biological stand point) to put on crazy muscle after a few reps. Does that mean it's impossible? No! All it means is that you shouldn't fear a certain look because of strength training. On top of that, there is more that goes into putting on muslce than lifting dumbbells and barbells.

Which leads me to my second point; putting on muscle isn't an easy feat. Even if you follow a fairly strict training program, but your diet, recovery, stress, & life are not in line and prioritized, it will make putting on muscle that much more difficult. The body needs to be getting proper fuel and nutrients to maximize even the slightest gain of muscle. And I'm not just talking eating "relatively" clean or "good". You need to be dialed in with everything to the point that food is being accurately weighed, timed, etc! So, if you don't fall in that category, then you probably don't need to stress looking like the She Hulk.

Last thing I want to hit on is training intensity. The amount of stress that needs to be placed on muscles to grow far exceeds the stress that most women AND men tend to be doing. You need to be training hard and heavy for at least 45 minutes and I'm talking hard. Most prorgams that the avergae man and/or woman follow is typically intense enough to increase their heart rate, make them stronger, protect their heart, while putting on a little muscle, but outside of that, it won't be the type of training needed for mountains of muscle.

With all that said, let's quickly go over the benefits of a strength training program.

Benefits

Better sleep✔️

Increased strength✔️

Increased bone density✔️

Increased mobility & flexibility✔️

Stronger joints, tendons, & ligaments✔️

Increased metabolic rate (BURN🔥more calories)✔️

Decrease of common aches, pains, & risk of injury✔️

Need I say more?

As you can see, the benefits that can come from following a proper strength training program are numerous and can improve all areas of your daily life.

Hopefully, this helps alleviate some unnecessary stress when it comes to starting a strength program. Don't let the barbells, dumbbells, and bros screaming "UP!" while they're pushing out another rep freak you out. Stay focused on you and your goals and remember; Strong. Is. Beautiful.
